Video Work: Writing, Story Boarding, Editing & Directing

 

In 2014, Johnson directed his first music video Miss Mortitioner for performance art project Albert Bagman. Since then, Johnson has wrote, story boarded, edited & directed several other projects. Not only taking on videography, he works to assemble all props, puppets, & costumes by hand to ensure the videos are aesthetically pleasing to the vision of the project.

The Rainbow Scarecrow (2023)

Johnson created an experimental film based off a journal entry, synthesizing the reflection into a vibrant and abstract installation. The notion of a ‘Rainbow Scarecrow’ became ethereal.

Your Favorite Pancake Cooking Show (2022)

Johnson directed and acted in a parody cooking show. Chaotic energy among the show hosts, attempting to make our favorite breakfast food, Pancakes. Is it a DIY noise set? Is it a cooking show? You decide!

The Pet Rock Enthusiast (2022)

Johnson developed the character ‘Duncan Jacobson’, known as the Pet Rock Enthusiast. A mockumentary following the average day for the pet rock owner and creator. To be the Pet Rock Enthusiast, it takes discipline and a passion for conversation with these solemn beings.

Till Death (2016)

A puppet based tale for the performance art project Albert Bagman. A humorous and tragic love story, strong saturation to highlight the settings and stimulating twitchy imagery. The marionette puppets, props, & sets were hand crafted by Johnson. The music is written, performed & recorded by Johnson that accompany’s this project.

Knuk the Kat and the Discovery of the Sunrise (2020)

A one minute film project following the adventure of Knuk the Kat. Knuk reads about the sunrise and its power to bring hope, finding beauty in the small moments in life. The marionette cat puppet & props were created by Johnson. Walker Boyle assisted in videography & puppeteering.

 

Fester, will you please be our Dad? (2020)

Collaborating with Walker Boyle (musician name Sugar Glass) writing a Halloween pop song dedicated to their favorite Addams Family member, Fester Addams. Johnson & Boyle have a deep passion for Halloween & all things spooky & this video captures the fun & chaotic energy of Fester Addams.

Don’t Forget Your Umbrella (2020)

An experimental short created during the time of COVID-19. Capturing the anxious energy and strange connection to the woods, something that is buried in the dirt. Using contrasting imagery to create tension with inner monologue and flashing memories of the woods, words of wisdom being “Don’t Forget Your Umbrella”.
